How much does media training cost?

Media training is hugely valuable for businesses, charities and councils.

But it can also be prohibitively expensive.

We believe our media training is the best value in-person course that you will find in the UK.

We charge a flat-fee of £796 + Vat for a one-day course for a group of three to five people (four is the ideal number in our experience).

That price is per group, not per person. For a group of four, that works out as £199 + Vat per person.

Some media training courses cost more than £2000 - £3000+ for one day’s training.

We do things a little differently - without compromising on the learning experience.

Are there any other costs to your media training course?

It depends!

We are based in the East Midlands and don’t charge anything else if you are within the East Midlands’ counties (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire).

If you are in London, Birmingham, Cambridgeshire or South Yorkshire then we charge an extra £99 + Vat to cover our expenses. That brings the total cost to £895 + Vat.

If you are outside of those areas mentioned above, please get in touch and we will do our best to make it work!

Why does your media training course cost less than many others?

There are several ways to run a media training course - and we aren’t suggesting that other trainers are over-priced.

However, we think our approach offers the best learning experience for you whilst also keeping our price competitive.

We do this in five ways:

  1. We train in small groups, whereas some people offer one-on-one training. Our experience is that working in groups of three to five offers the ideal learning environment. The course is carefully structured so you won’t be sitting around waiting for your turn - but will learn from other people’s interviews and have time to reflect on how to improve your own skills.

  2. We ask you to provide the venue, which is usually a meeting room in your workplace. Some trainers provide mock studios to give you the experience of being interviewed in an unfamiliar environment. Studio experience is valuable but the majority of news interviews take place on location or via phone/video call. We also believe that the most important thing is to learn the skills required to answer questions confidently and with purpose - the location is a secondary issue.

  3. We don’t provide lunch. However, we will provide some healthy snacks and will allow 45 minutes for lunch.

  4. We only provide digital unedited copies of the day’s interviews for free. Some media trainers will edit these and provide you with recordings on disc. We can do this, but charge an extra fee for our time.

  5. We train alone, with Robbie acting as the journalist and camera operator. Some media training courses use a separate camera operator and sometimes even a sound operator as well. This level of staffing is increasingly rare in news media. Our approach of acting as a video journalist is more likely what you’ll face if you mostly deal with regional media. Again, our course is all about learning how to answer questions. The size of the camera is secondary (although we do use professional video and audio equipment).

Take a look at our course content to see how we can help your business, charity or public sector organisation to communicate with the media.
